Abby Anderson sits down at C2C Berlin
Does it feel surreal arriving in new cities?
Yeah, I’ve never been here before and it’s just beautiful. We’ve walked down the Berlin Wall a little to have a look at the artwork on there. I’ve also been practising a few German phrases too so I’m ready for this evening.
What do you think of Berlin so far?
It’s beautiful, well the weather not so much but I’m happy to be here
When you started out, could you ever imagine playing overseas?
I always knew I wanted to take my music to the world and wanted the world to hear it so its certainly something I’ve always dreamt about.
Next stop London.
Yeah. I love London, y’all are so good to me over there too. C2C last year was so much fun and it was amazing getting to meet my fans in London, many of who I had met through social media and could now meet in person. I also made so many new friends, so I’m excited to do the same this year and for years to come.
Why do you think European fans have taken to you so quickly?
I don’t know! I’m just glad they did. I think Europe on general is very unique that you guys for some reason listen more and y’all just appreciate the music so much more.
Were you really keen to come back?
I was really excited when I got asked.
You are performing as part of the songwriters round, what can we expect?
Yeah, I’ll be performing with Eric Paslay and Tenille Townes in the round. The three will be playing songs and talking about the songs. This kind of performance is very laid back compared to what I usually do. It’s going to real nice for me to just sit and play piano.
What kind of stories do you like telling when playing these round shows?
Real ones! Embarrassing ones! I like to tell how I wrote the song and where the ideas came from.
What’s your favourite song-writing story?
I always find it funny telling people where the break-up songs came from. My music is pretty sassy sometimes and it’s funny to see the other girls in the crowd relate to those stories as we’ve all been there. The beauty of music is that it’s relatable. For me, I love seeing the joy that you can spread through music because when I listen to music, it may be a happy song, a love song or a break-up song that I might not relate to word for word but usually it makes me feel something and usually that’s some kind of form of joy. I just hope I can do that for my listeners too.
Can expect any new music?
Europe is a great place to test out new songs as y’all actually listen and I’m very thankful for it.
Any plans for when you head back home?
It’s back into the studio and writing. We’ve got a few more shows throughout the year but it’s going to mostly be writing and recording so I can tour it!
For people seeing you for the first time, what’s your top tip of what to look out for during your set?
I love singing harmonies so much. Me and Tenille have played quite a few shows together so I’ll probably sing on her songs as she’s told me it doesn’t bother her too much. I just can’t help but sing with that go, she’s so stinking good. So watch out for the harmonies on these guys songs. It’s going to be a great few evenings. I’m so thankful to be back and it’s crazy that it’s already been a year. I just hope everyone knows how excited I am to play and how thankful I am for you guys. I don’t make music for myself so I’m thankful that people listen to it.
