Bailey Zimmerman Live at Koko

Bailey Zimmerman is quickly becoming one of the most talked about artists in country music. After trading rural Illinois for music city and only began writing music less than three years ago, his debut EP ‘Leave The Light On’ became the biggest streaming country debut of all time and his fandom has continued to grow with the release of his first full-length project: ‘Religiously, The Album.’ Last year which has gone on to be certified platinum.

A British debut opening for Morgan Wallen last December ignited the fire on this side of the Atlantic which acted as a teaser for his own UK are Ireland headlining tour where we attended the opening date at London’s Koko in Camden on Thursday 9th May.

Appearing on stage to a sold out show just after 9:05 with a full production show of lights, smoke and the entire works kicking off with the title track of his acclaimed debut album.

This was a first trip back to the former Camden Palace in a number of years, the venue fell victim to a tragic fire and we had the minor matter of a pandemic which we are now sick of talking about but damn had we missed this venue! Multiple levels and intricacies make it a wonderful space for both viewing and acoustics.

With emerging Canadian superstar in the making Josh Ross bringing the energy and  work the crowd into a frenzy, Zimmerman already had the capacity crowd ready to go into the rowdy and energetic crowd that you can experience in the UK if an artist is ready to bring it.

Bailey’s show was a show and a proper show with no half measures for his first UK headline tour, it was backing tracks leading into loud sounds perfected by his band with the full shebang complimenting the soundtrack of the songs being played which reflect why he is rapidly emerging as one of the premier live acts in country music.

Considering how late in their development in comparison to many artists that Zimmerman emerged onto to the country music scene and has achieved rapid success is a testament to his vocal prowess, songwriting and connectivity as a performer. You feel the warmth and energy flowing from the stage as he works the crowd and feeds off their intensity.

The guy has an internationally acclaimed album and is such a charismatic performer that you are instantly drawn to, he has the mythical “X-Factor” where you just nod your head and acknowledge that he has something special which is a combination of lyrics, energy and the live experience.

It’s wild, it’s energetic, it’s captivating and entertaining, this is a man destined to be headlining much bigger venues on future tours to come, which we hope is not too far along the horizon. He has something you don’t see every day and makes you crave for more, it is warm and uplifting and unashamedly him.
