The C2C Sit Down with Callie Twisselman
Having been raised on her family’s seventh generation cattle farm in California, Callie Twisselman really does have country living infused into every fibre of her being. Whilst Nashville, Tennessee is now her home, she is no stranger to the United Kingdom, having first appeared at C2C: Country to Country back in 2022 where she performed in the main arena on the spotlight stage.
Three years later, off the back of a flow of new music and having opened for Jelly Roll in Canada, she returns to the festival with even more new music on the horizon staring off with “King & Queen Of Recklessness” which was released during the event. During her time in London, we sat down with Callie to talk about the festival, the new single and all of her plans for the rest of the year.
Welcome back, what’s it been, three years?
“Yes, three years, it was 2022.”
So, it went pretty well last time then?
“Yeah, I loved it here last time. Everyone is so nice and they love country music, so I was like I need to be here.”
How many sets have you done so far?
“I’ve done one set today and tomorrow I have two.”
That was The Wayside where you played the first one and I think that stage probably looked different to when you last played.
“I didn’t play that one last time.”
Last time, you played in the really big room.
“Yeah, I played the big room then the Country Line and the BBC stage.”
It’s wild how much bigger this festival has got even over the last three years.
“Yeah, it’s changed a lot.”
Most excitingly, you are back over with some new music too. “King & Queen of Recklessness” came out yesterday (14th March) so tell us everything about that one.
“Okay, so this song I wrote by myself. I do that quite a lot because when I write songs, I take from experiences that I have lived and unfortunately this song comes from one that I had to experience. These days the dating world can be tough and people play games, so I was like I’m over it and I’m going to write a song or whatever. It’s about an on and off again relationship that you keep going back to even though you know that it’s bad for you but it keeps drawing you back in. Then I came out the other side, I’ll live with it, I’ve been there and done that.”

I know it’s been a couple of years since you have been over here, but have you still been seeing a lot of love from the European fans and support for whenever you have been putting music out?
“Oh yeah, I have a few die-hard fans who message me on Instagram asking when was I coming back? When was I going to be doing C2C again? Then when people from here came to Nashville, they came to see me play a few places there so I love it.”
Then you’ve been putting some more new ones into the sets over here too.
“I have, I’ve thrown a few new ones in which will be released this year. This year should be busy, we’re working on some festivals and some touring at the moment but mainly just releasing a bunch of new music. We’re going to keep putting it out because last year I put out a couple of singles but not nearly as much as we’re looking at for this year. This year will be bigger.
I guess you can move things around a lot and if you write something that you really like and feel is the right fit at the right time but also there are those times that once you have written something, got people to play on, cut it and wait for it to be mixed can be a long process.
“Yeah it’s like a process, sometimes I’ll record a song and I don’t even put it out until maybe a year or two later, just by the time that we plan everything behind the scenes.”
That is one of the advantages of being independent and having more control over what you are wanting to do.
“Being independent, I do have control and it’s not waiting for a whole team or a label to set what they want me to do, I can put out the music that I want to put out and is very me rather than what someone might want to form you in to as an artist. I like that freedom, where I can just release what I want, that definitely is nice but it is tough too, especially with things like this where it is a big investment.”
Then hopefully, you won’t wait too long to come back to see us and maybe be able to bring a band with you too.
“I’m ready already, with a band would be awesome. I have my band in a box for this trip, I’m playing semi-acoustic with some tracks.”

I’m starting to really like that as a setup, I wasn’t sure at first about people playing over tracks at the festival but as more people are doing it, I get it and it shows more of what your sound is. Also, if it’s just you and your guitar, some people will just see another girl playing acoustic and unfortunately there are still people out there that view it like that, so it’s cool to be able to stand out and do something different. It’s so nice that you are back here, when I saw your name, I was like Awh, she was really sweet and I liked you so it’s been cool to hang and learn a bit more about you. How long have you lived in Nashville for now?
“I moved in the October of 2017 so a little over seven years, I would travel back and forth from California but I’ve seen it change a lot since I moved there.”
This festival has changed A LOT too in that time but it’s so nice to have you back and I appreciate the hang, I love those boots, they are so cool.
“Thank you, they are cute with the little roses. Do you have boots that you ever put on?”
I have DM’s which I wear a lot.
“I have some of those but in black.”
I love them but I just tend to live in my Nike’s and Vans most of the time. Are you normally a boots all the time kind of girl?
“I wear a mix, I like heel too but I just go with what feels right to make the look.”
You always look great Callie, so enjoy the rest of the festival and we will see you again soon.
