Channing Wilson Is “Gone Fishin’” While Announcing His New Album I Ain’t No Outlaw
Georgia-bred singer-songwriter Channing Wilson releases his new single “Gone Fishin'” today and announces his forthcoming sophomore album, I Ain't No Outlaw, arriving January 15, 2027 via 101 Music, the music division of 101 Studios, in partnership with Thirty Tigers. Recorded live at Nashville's historic RCA Studio A, the 10-song collection reunites Wilson with nine-time Grammy Award-winning producer Dave Cobb, who also produced his acclaimed debut, Dead Man.
Written by Channing Wilson, Rob Snyder, and Aaron Raitiere and produced by Cobb, “Gone Fishin'” offers a lighter, more playful side of the forthcoming album. A quick-witted ode to Wilson's favorite escape from life's pressures, the song follows a man so overwhelmed by the news and his own thoughts that his doctor prescribes the ultimate cure: a rod, reel, and some time outdoors.

“I was gettin' the blues from watching the news / One Monday morning afternoon / Overthinkin' got me thinkin' got my tires all stuck in the mud,” Wilson sings, eventually arriving at the doctor's prescription: “Pull up a stump, tie a worm on / Take a puff of that worry-be-gone.”
For Wilson, the song hits close to home. Fishing has been a lifelong source of peace, dating back to his childhood in Georgia and continuing through the pressures of adulthood and fatherhood.
“If I was going to lay down on a psychiatrist's couch and they said, 'Tell me about your childhood,' the first thing I would probably say is, 'Well, I went fishing a lot,'” Wilson shares. “I've tried just about everything that the earth has available to cope with those things. And going fishing, to me, was always something that... I would just lose myself in three or four hours, and at the end of that, I would come back and just feel great. I got anxiety fishing, but it was for a different reason. It was a hopeful anxiety. Pull up a chair, son. Pull up a stump. Sit down now.”
That same sense of authenticity carries through I Ain't No Outlaw, which moves between tenderhearted ballads, story-songs, and hellraising Country anthems centered on work, heartbreak, faith, family, and finding a way forward. The album's title reflects Wilson's approach to his career: he isn't interested in playing an outlaw or following trends, but in staying true to himself and the music he believes in.
“I'm not trying to be big, bad, and tough,” says Wilson. “I'm just trying to stay true to myself, and keep getting better and better at what I do.”
The album marks Wilson's first release since signing with 101 Music in partnership with Thirty Tigers and arrives as he reaches his widest audience yet. A finalist on CBS' The Road, Wilson has also appeared in the Yellowstone universe with multiple performances on CBS' Marshals. A respected Nashville songwriter, his catalog includes songs recorded by Luke Combs (including the multi-platinum No. 1 hit "She Got the Best of Me,”), Riley Green, Zac Brown, Robert Randolph, Brent Cobb, Cody Jinks, and more.
Raised in LaFayette, Georgia, Wilson began writing songs as a teenager and spent years playing local bars before selling his fishing boat and much of his guitar collection to fund weekly trips to Nashville. His persistence eventually led to a publishing deal and opportunities to write alongside his musical hero, Guy Clark. Now, with I Ain't No Outlaw, Wilson continues down the same road, on his own terms. Pre-order/pre-save the album here.
