Dan Davidson QuaranTen
Life is very different for everyone at the minute. With tour cancels and acts unable to perform with their bands in person, online gigs and festivals are becoming the new normal. However, thats just one hour of the day so we though we would find out what artists are up to with the rest of their time with our new quick fire quarantine questions - QuaranTen. We spoke with Canadian artist and friend of Country in the UK, Dan Davidson to see how he was spending his time at home in Edmonton.
Latest you’ve got up?
Well I have 2 young kids so I’m yet to make it to 7:45 AM…. Which isn’t so bad, but typically after they go to sleep, I head to the studio until at least midnight. I don’t mind being up early though, I’m definitely a morning person!
Earliest beer?
I’m more of a Baileys and coffee kind of guy! Sometimes a mid-day Caesar is a pretty solid choice on the weekends! Do you guys have Caesars over there? I know Americans are always confused by what exactly a Caesar is… They have Bloody Marys (gross), we have our own weird version with Clamato juice, Worcestershire sauce, hot sauce, vodka, sometimes pickle juice and garnished with a pickled bean/asparagus etc. I know… that SOUNDS disgusting - but it’s amazing!
Number of BBQs?
Living in Canada… it’s JUST warm enough now to be spending lots of time outside so sadly, I haven’t had too many yet. That being said, I just hooked up my new natural gas BBQ and it’s going to be getting a serious work out this month.
Longest wait for the supermarket.
Everybody orders for online pickup in Canada now! We just use and ap, pull our car up and someone throws the bags in. So, we haven’t really had any long wait times, but I HAVE spent more on groceries than ever in my life. It’s terrifying!
Series you’ve binged.
Pages 2 and 3 of Netflix… haha! Well, I’ve been watching a British show called Sex Education which is pretty awesome. I’ve also crushed Tiger King (how do these people exist in real life?! #merica), The Man In The High Castle, and I’m just about to start up with Ozark and The Last Kingdom again!
Song you’ve learnt to play.
To be honest I’ve been so wrapped up in writing and producing that I haven’t learned too many songs. I have been practicing guitar a lot though (I was a guitar player before I was a singer, so keeping those chops up is important to me). Strangely, I’ve been pitching tonnes of songs to Japanese pop bands! I even have a song on hold with one of the biggest acts over there, so that’s exciting. I will say, channelling my inner 17-year-old Japanese girl is not an easy task…
Number of days lockdown exercise planned lasted for.
I’ve actually been sticking to a challenge that a couple other artists and I have made for each other! 100 pull ups, 100 push ups, 100 crunches and 100 squats every day for April! I bet I would be completely ripped if I didn’t love beer, cheese and break so damn much.
House project you’ve completed.
I cleaned out my garage, did the yard work and next up is refinishing the deck! Speaking candidly, I have next to ZERO man-skills. Electronics are no problem, but woodworking, cars and things like that are not my forte!
Laziest thing you’ve done?
I’m pretty sure I wore 1 pair of sweatpants for a week, and 3 of those days I never went outside!
Random thing you’ve bought online?
This week I bought fuses for my amp, a wallet, furnace filters, an inflatable elephant, a rubber dingy, and a horse mask. The last few were for a video I have coming out on Monday! You’re not going to want to miss this one!
