Ladder to the Sky: A Hunts the Healing Story
Country-Soul singer-songwriter Drake White unveils his powerful and poignant documentary, Ladder to the Sky: A Hunts the Healing Story, streaming now exclusively on YouTube. The feature-length film was notably directed by Holt Ingalls and produced by White, Ingalls, Zack Knudson, and Rev White Pictures in association with Hatchee Productions.
Ladder to the Sky: A Hunts the Healing Story pulls back the curtain on the troubadour’s journey from the brink of death following a shocking on-stage stroke in 2019. At the time, medical experts feared he may never walk again, and the thought of potentially playing another gig seemed downright impossible, to say the least. As viewers will see, nothing could keep White down. He rallied the kind of resolve only champions exhibit. Two weeks after the incident, the trail camera in the back of his house captured the appearance of a 175-inch buck. This rare vision served as a totem of inspiration, and his fight really began in earnest.
Ultimately, hunting brought him back to his feet, back to the stage, and back to life.
Through candid new interviews, he tells this story in his own words joined by friends and confidants such as Riley Green, Zac Brown, Kid Rock, Realtree, and more. Celebrating the documentary, he hosted an intimate premiere and party at The Duck Blind — owned by Green — in Nashville, TN early last month for family, friends, and special guests. To bring the production to the screen, White teamed up with Realtree, Banded, Honey Brake, The Outdoor Channel, Bergara, Bushnell, Federal, Buck Busters Seed Co, 1st Products, and Tecomate, among others.

Promising to be an inspiring night in support of a great cause, White’s non-profit The Benefit For The Brain will donate and disperse proceeds from the show to select charity organizations covering three pillars close to the White’s heart: mental wellness for military and veterans, especially PTSD; brain health in children and adolescents, and innovative approaches to stroke recovery and neurological treatment. The inaugural installment sold out the Ryman, welcomed a diverse cohort of A-list artists (Green, Randy Houser, Jamey Johnson, Colbie Caillat), and raised over $253,000 in the process.
White recently served up a set of new singles with “Nuthin’ But a Smile” and “Nights on Fire.” Holler touted “Nuthin’ But a Smile” among the “Best New Country,” and Whiskey Riff featured the tune on its “Country New Music Friday.” Meanwhile “Nights on Fire,” has gained traction on DSPs as well as receiving critical acclaim from the likes of Entertainment Focus applauding it as “a track that captures the rush of youthful nostalgia and small-town magic with an anthemic punch.” Plus, the song made its global debut on BBC Radio 2's 'The Country Show with Bob Harris.’
Taking these new songs on the road, White will be canvasing North America through the end of 2025. Currently touring as support on the Riley Green: Damn Country Music Tour, White will then headline his Keep It Movin’ Tour this fall before joining Green’s 2026 Cowboy As It Gets Tour.
