Born into a musical family with parents playing together in a band, Alyssa Bonagura has always lived life on the road. The Tennessee native appears to now have found her happy place in London, where she has been accepted as an honorary Brit and fallen in love. Her love for the UK itself began with hearing about “The McCartney School” which led to her spending four year in Liverpool where she studied Sound Technology at Sir Paul’s Liverpool Institute of Performing Arts and the recording of “The English Diaries” EP back in 2010.
The 2023 reflection on her experiences and emotions of being in the UK comes in the form of her delightful new five song EP “Fly with Me” which will be released through Extreme Music (the production arm of Sony Music Publishing) on June 2nd (available to pre-save HERE) and is only the beginning of highlighting this as a full album is planned for release later in the year. Beyond being an artist and songwriter, the EP really demonstrates her talent in the chair in addition to being in front of the microphone as she produced, programmed and engineered the entire project herself, which allows her to express all of her country, rock and pop influences to the fullest and deliver a truly personal imprint on the finished project.
Whilst all of the tracks represent diary entries since she has relocated to London, Alyssa had said that the middle track “FOMO” was the most specific in writing but also the most evident in terms of knowing how she wanted it to sound as she drew inspiration from her love of Justin Bieber style production. This is a great way to depict the vibe of incorporating these different and varied sounds which are then wrapped around the base of what still is warm and pure country music storytelling which really creates a dynamic and creative feel. Traditional genre boundaries are intentionally floated between throughout “Fly with Me” that portrays the themes of spring and relationships blossoming. The EP is a warm and beautiful offering that truly demonstrates what true southern charm in storytelling combined with an array of British influences can achieve to create the brand of country music that the UK really aspires for. true Nashville songwriting, complete cohesion in a project, genuine relatability and creative freedom to be distinct and authentic.
