Emma Moore - Husbands or Kids single review
The fiery Lancastrian Redhead, Emma Moore brings some of the most progressive sounds on this side of the Atlantic with the way that she adds her powerful and dynamic vocals to both infectious toe-tapping country rock crowd raisers and powerful ballads that are both impactful and haunting.
Since her debut extended release “Pilot” in 2016, Moore has further enhanced her charismatic blend of charm and sass in both her performances and songwriting which has seen her gain considerable support from BBC Introducing along with gracing Bob Harris’ Under The Apple Tree stage at the inaugural Long Road Festival in addition to appearing alongside Grammy winning songwriter Beth Nielsen Chapman at a writers round during her time studying at ICMP in North London.
Moving forward into 2021, there is a new EP on the way in spring with the first taste of this new music coming this Friday (March 5th) through lead single “Husbands or Kids” which was produced and mastered over in Nashville. On the idea behind the song, Emma shared:
“The search for love is about as universal as you can get, and stumbling along that journey is almost as common, but when I wrote this song a few years back I felt like I was trapped in a bad rom-com. Not as the gorgeous and funny lead character that found her charming forever love, oh no. I was very much in the comedic sidekick role, visible only to the worst choices, and where my only choice was to laugh about it.”
“Husbands or Kids” has a rowdy vibe filled with attitude that really reflects the idea behind the song of not doing what you are told or what you are expected to do. It is punchy and impactful in the melody which takes it to the rockier side of country music which is something that makes Moore stand out amongst a lot of the UK based artists in that her sound is not on the conservative side of the genre or trying to fit a specific box. It delivers a showcase for her powerhouse vocals and honest songwriting where you will find elements that would draw you to Brandy Clark in her writing style. On writing the song, Emma offered:
“Sometimes as writers we can be drawn much more to the melancholy and reflective songs or ideas, where we think and feel deeply and poetically. I have to admit that’s where I feel the most comfortable when writing, but sometimes, even in moments of despair, you just have to laugh - and that’s where this track sits.”
The new single “Husbands or Kids” from Emma Moore is a really bold and powerful introduction to her forthcoming EP and will be released on Friday March 5th which you can Pre-Order or Pre-save now.
