Kaitlyn Baker "Drinkin' Hours" Review

As a firm favourite of the UK audience due to her silky smooth vocal and sharing hit pop melodies blended with traditional country music stories, it is very exciting to be hearing new music from Kaitlyn Baker as she shares her new track “Drinkin’ Hours” being released on October 29th.

Originally from the small town of Pound in Virginia but now calling Music City home, Baker returns to bring the next chapter following on from her acclaimed 2018 release; “Blackbird” which opened the door for her to play shows with the likes of Brad Paisley, Brett Eldredge and Tanya Tucker.

“Drinkin’ Hours” has a really slick mid-tempo start that melodically reminds me of Trisha Yearwood’s “She’s In Love With The Boy” in terms of the tempo through the verses but has more of contemporary feel opening through the use of the electric guitar to have a real great feel of a driving song. Lyrically it is solid and explores a really relatable theme of where your feelings come to the forefront during those drinking hours. The production on the track is really clean, the song highlights Baker as both a writer and a vocalist which comes together for a track that not only want to listen to again and again but know is an exciting insight of what has to come with her forthcoming releases.

On the song, Kaitlyn shared: “A lot of people can relate to making the mistake of letting someone go or messing things up. ‘Drinkin’ Hours’ is an anthem for missing someone and having your feelings come to the surface on another level during drinking hours.”

The track was written and produced by Baker along with her husband Joe Lasher (who has recently signed a worldwide publishing deal with Warner Chappell Music) which was recorded at The Shop Studio with Jonathan Brown, Duncan Mullins, Jeremy Medkiff and Tony Creasman providing the instrumentals before being engineered, mixed and mastered by Van Atkins.

Kaitlyn had been booked to play C2C festival back in 2020 before the pandemic hit and now, but she is set to return next year for a European tour including playing festivals through the UK, Italy and Holland.
