Kip Moore Nalen Review

Welcome to Stockholm the home of Agnetha Fältskog, Björn Ulvaeus, Benny Andersson and Anni-Frid Lyngstad; as well as Tim ‘Avicii’ Bergling, but for two nights the music name in town was Kip Moore. Throughout the daytime, the streets of Stockholm bustled with ice hockey fans in town for this year’s World Championships at the Avicii Arena, but in one corner of the capital city centre lay a club, whose decor wouldn’t look out of place in central London, of people in Stetson caps, cowboy hat and boots and even the odd checked shirt. This was Kip Moore’s home for 2 nights to kick start the European leg of his Solitary Tracks World Tour. The 600 capacity Nalen had originally been due to only host one night, but due to huge demand for tickets a second was added on the Friday nights and it was no surprise to hear that both nights were sold out.

The Nalen venue is just a short walk from the capital cities central train station making it a convenient location for all travelling into the city on a Saturday night, with its own restaurant above the venue making the perfect spot for a pre-show dinner and beer. The room layout could be described as similar to that of Bush Hall with the bar etc on your way in before entering the main room that almost looks like a copy of the Shepherds Bush venue.

As Kip arrived on stage at 930pm, opening with High Hopes, the 6-piece band squeezed onto the slightly cramped Nalen stage and certainly had their own high hopes for night two in Stockholm. Early in the show Kip let the sellout crowd know that if they brought the energy to the room then the band would bring the energy on stage and it didn’t take long for that to happen as the atmosphere in the room quickly went to ten and Kip repaired the crowd as he would give it 110% on stage for the whole set. What would lay head in Stockholm would be 105 minutes of the highest energy Kip Moore at his finest with no time for covers, extended guitar solos or striped back acoustic numbers - this was Kip’s show, and he made sure everyone knew it.

No matter how long people in the crowd had been fans of the … native, the show had songs from every aspect of his … year catalogue. A trio of songs from his latest Solitary Tracks album would open the set as the crowd got louder and louder for each one and would be followed by diving deeper into his catalogue to feature tracks off each of his five previous albums, with the crowd singing, clapping and swaying to every single one. The night would feature many fan favourites in the 23-track set, including 5 from Solitary Tracks

In the UK we feel like we offer Kip a second home, but off the back of a trip to Sweden we may just have to up our game as the Nalen crowd certainly gave an electric atmosphere that by the end left Kip taking a moment sat down in front of the drum kit to soak it all in for as long as he could. The venue in Sweden may be smaller than what we expect of Kip in the UK now, but the energy in the room made it feel like a sold out O2 Arena. Thank you Kip for another memory and thank you Sweden for our first Scandinavian concert experience
