Kristine Wriding may not be a familiar name to many people who read the Country in the UK posts, however after one listen of her third studio album, Just The Beginning you may be questioning why we haven’t heard more of her. The singer-songwriter grew up well away from the bright lights of the city she now calls home, Nashville, in Chisago, Minnesota with a population of just over 5,000. Since playing her first gig in a sandwich shop and being paid in free food, Wriding has gone on to perform in some of Nashville’s iconic locations, including The Bluebird Cafe and Puckett’s.
Just The Beginning opens with Barefoot Beauty, about remembering your care free roots, which for Wriding came from growing up on a small farm. Her latest single Live, Laugh, Love tells the tale of savouring ever moment life and living for the memories, an uptempo feel good song.
Can’t Help but Love You is about enjoying every moment with your partner however how hard life gets. A Night Like This sees Wriding leave the city lights to return to her small town routes and take in every moment and remember some favourite childhood memories.
For Kip Moore it was all about the girl in the red dress, for Wriding it’s all about the guy in the cowboy hat and tight pants. Tight Pants is sure to be a crowd pleaser with its clever, witty lyrics. The title track, Just The Beginning, is a note to the past about not giving up after a high school breakup and how irrelevant it will all be as you can find yourself and achieve anything you want to.
Someday looks into the future about not caring what other people think - as long as you have an end goal you can achieve it someday. At which point you can say I told you so. The eight track album ends with More. The final track reminds us to want more than just existing and taking your life into your own hands.
This really is a positive feel good, heart warming album about achieving more than you ever though was possible. For Wriding, I hope this is just the beginning and we will begin to hear much more from this singer-songwriter who clearly has a way with words and certainly has a voice to match the lyrics. From track one you are made to feel apart of Wriding’s journey, which shows no sign of ending any time soon.
With the album featuring all original songs I have included a little something extra for you below. As well as the video to A Night Like This, check out her cover of one of favourite artists, Kelsea Ballerini and her track Dibs.
