Sam Palladio Live at The 100 Club

100 Oxford Street has hosted live music since 1942 and the iconic 100 Club has been trading since 1962, hosting the who’s who of the music industry - from McCartney and Welles to Queens of the Stone Ages and the Sex Pistols. Last night though it was Cornish native Sam Palladio making his 100 Club debut as he stepped on stage to celebrate the release of his new single Meanwhile in London, which is set to be the opening track on upcoming album the perfect summers day, before we lost the light out September 13th.

For those unfamiliar with the name Sam Palladio, he may be better known to many as Gunnar Scott, having appeared in all 124 episodes of the hit TV show Nashville. Tonight Palladio left Scott behind (aside from a few Nashville songs) and showed what he has to offer as an artist in his own right.

The night though was opened by Alyssa Bonagura - fresh from her appearance at Black Deer Festival (and an upcoming interview with CitUK)- as she supported her long time friend Palladio. The pair actually first met on the set of Nashville while Alyssa was an extra during an episode in season 2!

Bonagura and guitarist Steve Shirley made the most of the six song set as she shared tracks from her most recent EP - Love Wins - as well as her earlier records Road Less Travelled and Love Hard

As Sam Palladio hit the stage, he wasted no time in giving the crowd a glimpse of what they might expect from the September release and would go on to play 10 tracks from the upcoming release over the course of the evening. For Palladio, it was an opportunity to share stories about some of the tracks, including how SMF became the final "chilled out" title of a song that was originally know as Super Mother Fucker; how being held at gunpoint in Nashville resulted in the song Bullet For Your Love; how his grandfather didn't wake up as the train went through Nashville and he missed seeing the girl he had been dating led to Wake Me Up in Nashville; and finally how with the release of Meanwhile in London Palladio decided about ten days ago that he should probably put a show on in London to celebrate it!!

The highlight of the night however had to be the introduction of a very special guest to play Tennessee with Palladio. While the Foo Fighters prepared for back to back nights at London's Olympic Stadium it was only fitting that Chris Shiflett (who features on the track) was able to find time to come and perform the track live with Palladio.

Palladio was well aware that the majority of those in attendance know him through the TV show Nashville and he certainly didn't disappoint them as he also worked in five songs from the show into the set - including inviting Alyssa Bonagura back to the stage to take over Clare Bowen's part in Fade Into You.

Having now had a chance to hear the majority of his debut album at the single launch event, it is safe to say that this release will be one that will have people talking and is bound to put Palladio into the light as an artist in his own right - not just an actor playing a singer. We are now well and truly on the countdown to September when we get to hear what the studio version of the album sounds like compared to the full band live show and also what the songs are like that we were not treated to at the 100 Club
