Sarah Darling Christmas Special @ Union Chapel
Review and photos by Charlotte Lehmann
Kicking off December and the Christmas festivities with a bang, Sarah Darling put on a memorable show for London at the Union Chapel.
In the glow of the Christmas tree lights, Sarah Darling sang Christmas classics such as ‘Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas’ and ‘Winter Wonderland’ as well as other well known Christmassy tracks including ‘Santa Baby’.
The Union Chapel was the perfect location for Sarah’s Christmas special. The venue’s impressive decor was matched by Sarah’s effortless voice and her Christmas spirit. She filled the room with many of her fans’ favourite tracks including ‘Where Cowboys Ride’, ‘Fire’, ‘London Fog’ and the stunning ‘Montmartre’. Sarah made sure to include something for everyone as she also sprinkled in a few covers from some big country names like the Dixie Chicks and a cover of ‘Leave The Pieces’ by The Wreckers, which was released as the first single for her Campfire Sessions project.
Sarah made her London show as atmospheric as the Grand Ole Opry and as intimate as the Bluebird Cafe, bringing the Country passion of Nashville to the Union Chapel. The London audience were also treated to performances from very special guests Jamie Lawson, The Wandering Hearts, Ward Thomas and Jessica Sharman who joined her on stage for a few songs.
For her last song before she left the stage, Sarah sang ‘Silent Night’ and left the audience speechless. For the final verse Sarah left her mic on the stand and stepped forward to fill the chapel with just her voice. You could hear a pin drop as everyone quietly listened to her beautiful voice, creating a truly breathtaking atmosphere in the venue.
Sarah left the stage with a tear in her eye as the Union Chapel audience jumped to their feet to thank her for an incredible night of both country and Christmas music. Sarah shared the stage with some of the UK’s best country artists and she is already a beloved member of our UK country family.
Sarah’s performance was the perfect way to get into the Christmas spirit and left everyone feeling merry and bright.
