Shaboozey Returns with Highly Anticipated Concept Album The Outlaw Cherie Lee & Other Western Tales Out Today!
GRAMMY®-winning, record-breaking singer-songwriter Shaboozey has returned with his highly anticipated new album The Outlaw Cherie Lee & Other Western Tales. A dream project that gestated over seven years before, during, and after Shaboozey’s ascension to stardom, The Outlaw Cherie Lee is Shaboozey’s most cinematic and diverse album yet, a classic American story of revenge and doomed love that pushes his trademark trail-blazing, genre-colliding style even further. The album is out TODAY, July 31st via Shaboozey’s record imprint American Dogwood, in partnership with his label home EMPIRE.

Shaboozey will continue a weeklong celebration of The Outlaw Cherie Lee with a concert taking over the TODAY plaza in New York City. The performance follows Wednesday’s appearance on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, during which Shaboozey unleashed a potent rendition of “Cowgirl” - watch HERE - featuring a surprise appearance by Ciara Miller. Each performance serves as a preview of the freewheeling show Shaboozey will bring on the road during this fall’s Outlaws Never Die Tour.
“I've always had these crazy, ambitious ideas,” Shaboozey says, nodding to the iconic inspirations for Cherie Lee, including classic concept albums like Pink Floyd’s The Wall and the sprawling films of Sergio Leone. “Cherie Lee is just me wanting to be a storyteller. I love Westerns, and they’re an awesome form of storytelling — American folk tales and folklore, gunfighter ballads, trail songs. Country music isn’t always as clean as people think. I wanted to create a world of villains, romance, violence, and vulnerability — the throughlines of country and hip-hop.”
Accordingly, Shaboozey enlisted his widest and wildest array of collaborators to date. The malleability of his sound on Cherie Lee makes room for everyone from Gunna to Leon Bridges; “Bullets And Blades” is an achingly gorgeous duet with Kehlani, while the album closes with a dusty epilogue featuring Orville Peck taking centerstage. These are the characters that populate the world of Cherie Lee, alongside famed actors: Jamie Foxx channels his role from the modern Western classic Django Unchained in two different tracks, Sam Elliott appears wielding his weathered frontier energy, and Teyana Taylorbrings the renegade spirit of her role in last year’s Academy Award Best Picture-winner One Battle After Another. Following early previews “Born To Die” and “Cowgirl” (a spiritual successor to Shaboozey’s massive, record-breaking hit “A Bar Song (Tipsy),” despite being written before), fans can now hear all the colors and sounds that make up the rest of his multi-faceted Western epic.
The Outlaw Cherie Lee & Other Western Tales is a cinematic outlaw revenge story with a tragic love at its center. After watching her sheriff father murdered by the Bootcut Boys, Cherie Lee abandons the badge and hunts the gang down one by one. In the middle of her vengeance, she unexpectedly falls for one of the outlaws. He believes loving her can redeem him; she hopes loving him can quiet her darkness. They’re both wrong. In the final act, Cherie chooses blood over love, killing the man who loves her most and fully becoming what she set out to destroy. An ambitious display of everything Shaboozey is as an artist and a storyteller, The Outlaw Cherie Lee finds Shaboozey building a vibrant, complex world and taking his songwriting and storytelling to new heights.
Shaboozey returns to the road this fall on the Outlaws Never Die tour, featuring special guests BigXThaPlug, Kashus Culpepper, Noah Cyrus, Carter Faith, Brittney Spencer, Noeline Hofmann, and Angel White. Check out the full routing below!
