Singer/songwriter Sunny Ozell is set to release acoustic EP Live At The Village July 17th via Chitin Records. Based on tracks from the recent release Overnight Lowsthe 5 track EP is a breathtaking piece of music. With the single“Hammer and Nail” where the title was inspired by legendary soul band The Staple Singers now already out. The 3-minute track is a throwback to southern soul to the lyrically politicly led tune. Opening up with a soothing fiddle, the reminiscent “Driving Highways” is a dreamy tune that’s bound to leave the listener travelling to their happy place while dancefloor “Comes and It Goes” leads on. Meanwhile, “The Garden” is a walk through invite into the singer’s chain of thoughts. Finally, the EP closes with Los Lobos “The Valley” from 2006 studio album The Town and The City, which Ozell brings in her own take on the track, making it into her own. For an acoustic album, the album delivers a stunning stripped-down take on the previous release. Ozell voice continued to shine through effortlessly and beautifully. While her name continues to grow in the Americana scene here in the UK, Ozell has been receiving outstanding support from the like of BBC Radio 2 music gurus Bob Harris and Jools Holland. Meanwhile, last year, hosting Americana Music Association UK Awards nominations launch alongside Baylen Leonard, while the year before presenting an Americana UK Award. Ozell, also headlined and co-curated a stage at the Red Rooster Festival in Suffolk last year in association with the Americana Music Association UK and PRS, with a line-up of female artists.
