The BST Hyde Park Sit Down with Angel White
As one of the highlights from last year’s C2C: Country to Country festival, it was only a matter of time before Angel White would make his way back to the UK and he just so happened to choose two of the hottest days of the years at American Express presents BST Hyde where he was opening up for Zach Bryan. He released his new record “GHOST OF THE WEST: THE ALBUM” at the start of the year and whilst he was in town, Angel hung out with Jamie to give us an update on all that has been happening in the world of the 5th generation north Texas cowboy.
Good to see you, man, welcome back!
“Yes, yes, yes. It's good to be back.”
It's been about 18 months, I guess, since you were last here and it’s a little bit warmer, much closer to things back at home in north Texas.
“Yeah, for sure. I was born in Fort Worth and live in the Dallas area.”
So, I take it you're well raised as a Stars, Mavs, Rangers and Cowboys fan?
“Well raised, yes, but I love the Rangers, love the Stars and love the Mavericks.”
No!!!!! You're breaking my heart, man!
“I'm sorry. My whole family are Cowboys people though.”
Who do you cheer for then?
“Uh, If I had to pick, probably be the Steelers or the Buccaneers.”
The Bucs have a really big fan base here, because it's where the Brits go on holiday, when they go to Florida and to be fair, you've at least had success to taste unlike like the rest of your family as Cowboys fans. Anyway, we're here at BST in Hyde Park and I know that you haven’t played yet and mostly just seen things back here but what are your initial impressions? How does the vibe and setup feel compared to events back at home?
“I mean, it feels really good. It kind of reminds me of like ACL, especially with the village, that's always nice to have. We've done a bunch of outside festivals back home and it feels like that.”
Last time you were here was for C2C and it clearly went well enough for you to want to come back so I guess there was something in terms of the potential and growth since those shows to make it worthwhile to head back and see us.
“Absolutely. Like, even, you know, days before the festival or days before today, people were messaging and commenting that they' super excited and for me, I'm like, man, I'm far away. So, it's nice that the reach is actually reaching.”

I heard you speaking to someone else before and you had said that you're going to be playing some new songs today. You put out GHOST OF THE WEST earlier this year and in the process of releasing things, some of those songs were pretty old as you expanded the EP and even the newer ones are not really new to you by the time that it drops and you’ve got a bunch more that you’ve worked on by the time release day comes.
“For sure and you know, we played the songs as a band for probably like two years before it came out, we sat on it for two and a half years.”
It must be interesting for the fans because when it comes to a tour, they’re expecting it to be loaded from the album but you’re like hey, I’ve got even more for you!
“Yes and I also have to balance myself out in that regard because it is new to everybody else, although it's not new to me, it's new to everybody else and I think to some degree, there's a duty to kind of give these things that you you've given and show people that. But I love playing new stuff, I love playing this new stuff.”
I’ve seen that you’ve been exploring around town for the last couple of days and your temporary tour manager has been taking you to check out the local cuisine ha-ha
“Ha-ha yep, lots of McDonald’s.”
I saw he did take you up to our local though and you went for a pint at The Dukes Head in Highgate which has a really cool Robert’s Western World kind of vibe.
“I mean, it's like a Texas dive bar and that is all I need.”
Was that something you expected to find in London?
“Not expected, you know, but hoping. Wishful and he was like, we need to go.”

I really like it there and the vibes are good. The staff are really cool, it’s one of the few places you'll actually find PBR on draft in the city and they make proper mean margaritas. Coming back to music though, you were saying that you're performing some brand new stuff and I know that the album is still going through its cycle and things, but have we got plans to release some more new music later this year, maybe in late Q3 or edging into Q4?
“Yeah, probably release two or three tracks that are kind of not a part of anything, but then definitely going to gear up to really release in March again at the top of the year with a full new album which is like blues, rock and roll going full throttle on it.”
Rounding off about today, there's a lot of people that are really just coming for Zach but they will get here early and they will catch Gabrielle’s set on the main stage then they will go for wander around when she has finished and come across you playing for the first time, which is a great opportunity to win over new fans and continue building.
“Yep and that's honestly one of my favourite things, for people to hear me for the first time live because, you know, there's more essence to it and I get to be kind of personable. I can really connect on this face to face level and then if they want to go back to listen, they can.”
If they really like what they hear today, they can come and see you again tomorrow! After this I know you're playing some shows here with Waylon Wyatt and you're heading off to Paris with Dasha, which is really cool because it’s not somewhere where everyone gets to play when they come to Europe. It’s a great city and similar to London, fairly accessible with public transport and things.
“I'm excited and I've never been to Paris. I think I'll have a whole day there to explore.”
Enjoy that, go well today and great to catch up, appreciate your time dude.
“GHOST OF THE WEST: THE ALBUM” from Angel White is out now and available HERE. To Keep in touch with the Angel, you can follow along and see all that he is up to socially over on INSTAGRAM TIKTOK and X.
