The Sit Down with Britnee Kellogg
Hailing from Vancouver but not the Canadian one, Washington state native Britnee Kellogg is an artist that has really thrived in the modern social media driven world. Powerful as both a lyricist and a vocalist she has succeeded to connect with an ever growing audience and juggle her career alongside being a mother. Songs like “Hey Mama” and “Back of my Mind” from her 2024 album “She’s Come a long Way” have had heavy streams and circulation all over the globe and next week she will release her latest EP “A Mama’s Point of View” which sees her interpret a number of songs including Maddie & Tae’s “Die From A Broken Heart” to tell them from the perspective as a parent. Britnee recently made her first ever trip across the pond to perform at Country Calling in Chelmsford where we caught up with her and looked ahead to some time she will be spending on “The Road” this autumn.
Thank you for hanging out, welcome to Chelmsford.
“Thank you. It's so exciting to be here.”
Is this your first time in UK?
“It is, yes.”
Apart from the time difference and jetlag, are you enjoying it so far?
“Oh, yes, I'm so happy. It’s coming somewhere new, I love experiencing new places and knowing how excited the people at the festival are to hear some country music is so cool.”

Had you seen from your metrics, stuff like that and from interactions on socials, that people really have a keenness for your music here before you came over?
“Absolutely, the UK is a big part of my listeners, so I'm excited to be here and play.”
Is that crazy to think about, like, on the other side of the Atlantic?
“Yeah, it absolutely is. It's like, I've never even been here and there's people listening to my music, it's pretty amazing.”
I know you've probably pretty much seen backstage so far, but when compared to festivals back home, how does the vibe feel here at Country Calling?
“I love it. I think there's a really cool energy because, you know, back in the US, everyone is so used to it, you know? Here, it's like, you can feel the excitement and energy, that's pretty special.”
Let's talk about this POVs that you keep doing. How did it sort of start? We'll come on to the Maddie & Tay song you reworked in a little bit but where did the idea first start?
“I think I saw someone else do like, a completely switched point of view, and I was like, but wait, like, if I literally just sing it and change a couple of words, it completely changes the song. Then people just started requesting more and more so I just started doing that and it kind of became one of the things I was known for so it's been really fun to do them.”
Die From A Broken Heart (Mama's POV)
What was it about your version of “Die From A Broken Heart” that made you think this is the one to cut, this the one that I really need people to hear a lot more.
“I released that one yesterday, but I'm releasing a total of five on September 12th so it's a five song set, all from a mom's point of view. So, you know, obviously with my song, “Hey Mama” and the ones that really resonated with people that kind of went consistently viral like “I Loved Him First” went so viral, I got messages all the time from DJ’s like, we need this song, we can't use it from your YouTube, so I was like, I just need to release these. It's funny, I went into a tiny little studio and just did them really simple where I was like, this is just really for my fans, it's not like for the industry to judge.”
Nice, and leading into a very busy fall I guess. Tell us about “The Road”. I've seen a few teasers on socials, but what's the whole idea behind that show and what made you want to do it?
“So “The Road” is similar, I guess to other singing shows, but it is completely different. It's following around documentary style made by Yellowstone producer Taylor Sheridan where it’s following around twelve musicians on the road opening for Keith Urban at different venues. Instead of other shows where it's a shiny floor and they're singing karaoke songs, we get to sing an original song and a cover song, so people are really getting to hear our original music and follow us on the road so you're getting to know us personally, which I think is gonna make such a big difference.”
Did you worry about doing something like this again and doing another show after you had done Idol?
“Yeah, I mean, I think this show, it's really special. I think if I would have been reached out to and it was another just typical show, I would have said no, but this is such an incredible opportunity that I just couldn't pass it up.”

The main thing is that you have enjoyed it from what you've done so far and things. Also, this first time here in the UK will hopefully not be the last.
