All Music Matters chats with Verlon Thompson

April 13th 2017

He’s a singer, a songwriter, a poet, a great guitar player and sometime actor, who by the way does a killer Johnny Cash impersonation. Verlon Thompson is not only a man with a guitar but also a man with words whose had been covered by numerous artists, including Jimmy Buffett, Alan Jackson, Anne Murray, The Nitty Gritty Dirt Band, Kenny Rogers, Randy Travis, Del McCoury, Sam Bush, Trisha Yearwood among many more. Verlon Thompson's career spanned more than 40 years or so, starting off with a band, leading a solo career after a friend's encouragement, to later joining Guy Clark on tour that ended up to be a long lasting creative friendship, musicianship and partnership.  Thompson's work is hardly unnoticeable whether it was in songwriting or guitar playing, he's one of few songwriters who immerse a listener to the story he's singing.

True country music is honesty, sincerity, and real life to the hilt.
